If you are having a good day...

For those of you who feel that you are just too darn happy on any given day, this is the book for you. In Parenting today Mrs.Melick started us reading the book, A Child Called "It". It will really put a crapper on your day. The story is an inspirational memoir from a man who was abused as a child by his mother, and when I say abused, that word doesn't even do those acts justice. I sat there in my Parenting class and Study Hall reading this book and just bawling my eyes out. It is such a sad story. As I have said before, I just don't understand what would posess a parent to do stuff like this to their children. It is unimaginable.

Reeeeeeally switching gears, I got my interim report today. I still have my 3.67, which is pretty much awesome.

Chasing Cars

I absolutely love this song and it has been on 3 stations in a row on XM Online. The video is a little plain, but the song is awesome. It's by Snow Patrol. Unfortunately, Snow Patrol will probably be a case of 1-hit Wonders. Nobody really knows any of their other songs. Sad, isn't it?

Camelot

We are reading the musical "Camelot" in English. It's actually pretty funny. I got the part of Guenevere and we made it to the middle of scene three today. We also got our rubrics for the stupid Arthurian projects. I am writing a sequel to Camelot. Actually a parody. Here's an excerpt-

“Si..Sire?”
“What is it Bedivere? Quit staring at me like I’m the living dead or something!”
“Uh.. Sire?”
“Yes. Yes. What is it, good knight?”
“You are the living dead.”
“I’m what? Nonsense!”
“Sir, Mordred killed you with a mortal blow to the head. Remember?”
“Ah yes, well, I’m not quite dead yet.”
“So I see.”
“What was it you were saying about my kingly brow?”
“Mordred sort of severed it, Sire.”
“How do you figure that?”
“Have a look for yourself”

Bedivere held up a mirror. Arthur looked in. “Well that is a bit of a flesh wound isn’t it? Looks painful.”
“Is it, Sire?”
“I’m not sure. My nerve endings don’t seem to be responding like they used to.”

Yes, yes. It is kind of retarded I realize, but hey, it's the best I could do. Soooooo... tonight I have to go to Wal-Mart with some of the FCCLA members to get fabric for the Christmas Stockings we are making. Sounds fun, right? Today is going to be kind of blah, probably studying in World Studies and Geometry because I have tests in those two classes tomorrow. Not an extreme amount of things going on at the moment. Sort of a boring day really. And week for that matter.

Soup Nazi

Crazy Cat Lady

It is a scary bond that girl best friends have. I learned this at the bus stop today. I got there and had been in a rather foul mood all day for no good reason. I've been on one of my "I'm never going to find a good Christian guy" kicks the past few days and was waiting for the bus feeling sorry for myself when Rachel came up, also in a crabby mood.
"What's your problem?"
"I'm going to be alone forever. You?"
"Same."

Scary, huh? I don't know what the deal is. I am very sick of hearing people tell me "Becky, you don't need a guy."

Noooooo. Really? I thought I was about ready to fall over dead because I don't have one. I know I don't need a guy. But I really want one. When I had never had a guy like me it was cause to pout, but it really never bothered me as much as now. I know what I am missing now. Well, the good stuff I am missing. People tell me, "Now remember how things with you and Jordan turned out. Do you really want to rush into that again?" First off, I get really irritated when they say stuff like that because they don't know anything about the relationship. It was good at first, he was nice, and then when it went into the crapper he just wouldn't go away. From what I have heard, usually once a guy dumps you they leave you alone. If I knew every relationship was going to end up like that then I would swear off guys. However, I see happy people (yes, even in high school) who have been together for extended periods of time and I think it would be nice to have something like that. I know the good stuff that I am missing. I miss the phone calls every Friday night and the letters in the mail every couple of weeks or so and frequent e-mails. I really miss having just a guy to hang out with. I don't really have many guy friends anymore and it would be nice to have someone to talk to whose mood doesn't go up and down once a month (if you know what I mean *grin*) I think I would be happy with even that. Just to have someone of the opposite gender to talk to once in a while. (Don't look at me like that. My best friend was a guy for 7 years. They aren't a completely alien concept to me.)
Then again, maybe my whole perspective of this subject is tainted because of how my only relationship ended and how I have liked the same guy for almost nine years. I really feel .lke I'm pathetic. Either that or I have a sign on my back saying "Only gay or retarded guys need apply". I had a guy in Bio I flirting with me today. Either that or he was drunk. I tend to lean towards the first since he a.)asked if he could work with me on this stupid project. b.) kept leaning towards me during the class. c.)and was making stupid jokes. Clearly signs of flirtation or meth use.

I don't know what is wrong with me (Oh I can see the comments I will get on this statement now) but it really irritates me. I don't want to be a crazy cat lady.

Tralala..

Well, my title is just for lack of a better term. A great lack. It actually comes from the notorious Captain Underpants (pictured left) Unfortunately this great line did not make the top 100 most quoteworthy quotes (has anyone else noticed the great excess of top 100 lists lately?) A few of my favorites on the list-
_"Bam!" (Emeril Lagasse, "Emeril Live")
_"Come on down!" (Johnny Olson, "The Price is Right")
_"D'oh!" (Homer Simpson, "The Simpsons")
_"Good grief" (Charlie Brown, "Peanuts" specials)
_"Holy (whatever), Batman!" (Robin, "Batman")
_"Homey don't play that!" (Homey the Clown, "In Living Color")
_"How you doin'?" (Joey Tribbiani, "Friends")
_"I know nothing!" (Sgt. Schultz, "Hogan's Heroes")
_"Is that your final answer?" (Regis Philbin, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire")
_"No soup for you!" (The Soup Nazi, "Seinfeld")
_"Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?" (Grey Poupon ad)
_"Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" (Arnold Drummond, "Diff'rent Strokes")
_"Yabba dabba do!" (Fred Flintstone, "The Flintstones")
That's my summary. The other ones are just stupid. Here's a few of my own.
_"Tralala!" (Captain Underpants, "The Many Adventures of Captain Underpants")
_"I don't wanna be a pirate!"(Seinfeld, "The Puffy Shirt")
_"Unagi..." (Ross, "Friends")

Christmassy mood

Found this video on YouTube (did I mention I love this site?) and it is a combination of my two favorite things- Clay and Christmas. Hey, give me credit- I'm not the Clay addict I used to be. I love this song and typed it in and this came up. Could not resist. I love to make my dad groan.

Sooooo....It's kind of late and I am so not ready to go back to school tomorrow. I hate when Vacation is over. It is such a bummer. I get my rough draft back tomorrow. So not ready to go back. Not a whole lot to update on and its not like you guys give me any signs that you read me anyway. *cough*hint*cough* So to torture you guys, here's another Clay Christmas song.

Thanksgivin Part 2

I had an awesome Thanksgiving. For me the holiday actually started on Wednesday, though. My aunt and I had planned on watching girly movies and stuff that night and so after I went to my Aunt Sandy's to help set up for Thanksgiving, we started to head back to the trailer. As we were approaching the road to turn on, Dawn Kramer called. Her youngest foster son had been running a fever of 103 for over 24 hours and she wanted to take him to Children's. But, she didn't want to take him by herself. So, me and Aunt Julie went with her. We got there at around midnight. We waited for him to get into triage and they gave him Motrin and we waited in the waiting room until about 2. We went back to the exam room thinking that the end was near. A nurse came in at about 3:30.At 4 AM the doctor came in to check him out. He said that the baby had and ear infection and upper respitory infection. He perscribed Amoxycillin and fluids and said someone would be in shortly and we could go home. At 4:30 another doctor came in and checked on him and said that we could go home soon. At 5:30 someone brought in our perscription, and we ended up leaving at about 6 AM. At 7 AM we got home and went to sleep until 9:30 when we had to get groceries for dinner.
So all throughout the day I was exhausted. Thanksgiving was awesome and I probably took 2 or 3 short naps through the day. Later on, me and Aunt Julie made up for our movie night. We watched a movie and slept in until 11:30 this morning. It's been a fun time. We're getting ready to Mansfield.

Thanksgiving

I absolutely love this thanksgiving. As I guy in my Bio I class said, it is a day to celebrate overeating and dysfunctional families. That makes it a true American holiday. I am not going to do the cliche blog post about how nobody is really greatful for what they have or that this Thanksgiving you should consider how lucky you are. I mean, really, shouldn't you do that anyway instead of boxing it all up for one month out of the year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I know that on the "words of wisdom" on announcements here at school that everyone "loves" so much, they have been saying how ungrateful we are all week. But instead, here's a challenge. Listen to those people who say "think of how fortunate you are" but then, after Christmas is over, don't box it up. Keep it. That way, you'll be a lot happier.

And nobody will have to here all of the cliches next year as an added bonus.

Here it is.....

The picture you have all been waiting for. My costume. Or at least the shirt. Aren't I pretty?

Oh, and here is my hat. On Mike's head, but nevertheless. At the moment that I took this picture he was singing that he felt "pretty and witty and straight". Haha.

It's Finished!

My rough draft of my USA PATRIOT Act paper is done! *hallelujah chorus* 6 pages of defense on the stupid act, which is not bad for something I am totally against, and 2 pages of bibliography. Eek. That's terrible. Soooooooooo....anyway.....I don't know what I am going to do with my time now. lol. Went to the doctor today and I am perfectly fine! Woot! So, that's about all that is going on now.

Bad news/Good news

For those of you revolting over my lack of Munchkin costume pictures- take the picketing to my dad. He deleted the pictures without uploading. Oops. Sorry.

Now on a much better note, my aunt and uncle came to church to preach for us. 3 got the Holy Ghost! SWEET! It was amazing. Afterwards we went to Carraba's which I love. I got Chicken Bryan as usual. It was delish. So during dinner my Aunt Julie turns to me and says "Hey Becky, do you remember that I told you I had something for you for your birthday?"
"Yeah." I mean really, am I going to forget potential presents?
"Well technically it is not from me."
"Oh. It's not?"
"No. Before Grandma Ryan passed away she gave me something and asked me to hold on to it and give it to you when you turned 16. I took it to Tupelo with me when I left and got it cleaned and I've held onto it since. I think now is a good time for you to have it."
So, then she handed me a little green box. I opened in it and inside there was another box. Inside of that box was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. It was my Great-Great Grandma Deiffenderffer's (mouthful isn't it) engagement ring. It is absolutely beautiful. I took pictures but I can't figure out how to upload them, so I will later. I cannot stop looking at it. Later my aunt told me the story about why Grandma hadn't given it to me. When she died I was 10. She wanted me to have it, but thought I was too young. She thought that when I was 16 I would understand and appreciate it a lot more than I would have when I was 10. I think she was right.

Girls Day Out

For about two weeks, Rachel and I have been planning to go downtown and hang out. So, today after school we walked to each other's houses, dropped off our bookbags and went downtown. First stop was Sips, where we always go and hang out. It's a coffee shop on the corner right by the square. Its awesome. We got frappes, me chocolate, her caramel mocha and then continued on our way. We went to Paragraph's which is right next door. She wanted to get a new book and it was too expensive. Next door to Paragraph's is Pink Cupcake Bakery. They have some awesome stuff. We each bought a OSU cookie and a (shocker here) Pink Cupcake. Personally, I think that they put WAAAAAAAAAAYYYY too much icing on them, but for 99 cents who am I to complain. So, now we're just wasting time and go to Aunt Bee's Quilts and More, because we are both knitting addicts. Unfortunately, they had no knitting needles and sent us next door to some knitting store that I don't remember the name of. It was very fun.

Wrap-up

Well, now that I have posted the pictures (at least the ones that Dad uploaded), I suppose I should finish up talking about the play. We got 3 standing O's. We did the play 3 nights. That is pretty good. The theater was packed and as far as I know, the last night there were no mishaps. Awesomized. Afterwards, there was the cast party.

Now, being the resident geek of the school I have never really gotten invited to a party, so this was a really big thing for me. I got there at about 10:45 and begged my mom to let me stay till 1 AM. She said to call at 12:30 and we would talk. So I go in and this house was SWEET! It had high cielings, finished basement, the works. There is food out and the original Wizard of Oz is on and then in the finished basement they were showing the video from dress rehearsal. So the high school cast of 34 is crammed into the Oldham's basement and I was one of the lucky ones that got the couch. There were 4 of us crammed on a 2-3 person couch. It was me, the assistant stage manager, Russel (the tinman), and Bruce (the lion). So, I'm pumped with adrenaline so I don't think I'm tired. At about 11:30 the adrenaline wears off and I find myself nodding off, and realize that I start leaning towards Bruce. So my (as my health teacher called it) "Oh-Crap" reflex kicks in and I think "Ok, any second now, he's gonna turn to me and say 'Dude, personal space.'." So I called home to avoid an awkward situation.

After Dad laughed at me for almost falling asleep at a party, he came and got me. I went home and crashed.

I'm bummed that the play is over. But exhaustion is keeping me sane.

Oh Happy Day

Today I had to go to the dentist. I was definately expecting a cavity. So I go in and they take the x-rays and clean my teeth with that nasty strawberry toothpaste and some yummy grape flouride. They are sparkly now. So, anyway, after my teeth were sparkly the dentist comes in and says "We have a problem with your x-rays."
I knew it. "I have a cavity, don't I?"
"Actually, no. Your teeth look great."
"Oh."
"Actually, your wisdom teeth are going to need extracted."
"Oh, goody."

I think I would have taken the cavity. Don't know when yet, but 4 of my precious teeth are going to meet Mr. Scalpel sometime soon.

Enter the video that I have embedded. It is a scene from Sister Act 2. Starts out kind of slow, but keep watching. It gets pretty funny.

P.S. About the play. I will post about it later when my dad lets me put up pictures and a video.

If you're too late I am so sorry...

Well, I got some of the greatest news ever last night. For the first time ever in Mr. Ward and Mrs. Bell's career (those are our directors) MVHS has sold out tickets to last night and tonights shows and people were so desperate to get tickets that we have standing room only for last night and tonight!!!!! It was so awesome. We were cheering and jumping around the green room last night. The reason we had standing room only was that Mrs.Bell filled some mail orders wrong so we had 5 standing last night and I have no idea how many for tonight! I was psyched! It was amazing!

Last nights performance was nothing short of amazing. Our audience was so great and supportive. We actually tested them on this a little bit. During the Munchkinland scene we had a musicals worst nightmare. Dorothy's house fell on 4 Munchkins, myself included. A second grader got hit on the head and my Jitterbug dance partner got the corner jammed into her back. The mayor and I got hit but not very hard. It just kind of landed on us so it didn't really hurt but rather startled us. Luckily, our audience went along with us and laughed, and Dorothy and Glinda recovered wonderfully. The audience moved on and the rest of the play went on smoothly. It was wonderful.

Tonight is the cast party. I have a feeling that there are going to be a few tears from the seniors, as this is there last musical at the school and I am friends with one who is already pretty bummed out. I am still in shock that the show is already on its last night. Bummer.

I will probably blog tomorrow, because the cast party may run a little late.

Opening Night- The inside story

Tonight was probably one of the most fun evenings that I have ever had in my life. Our director said that a normal Thursday night crowd hardly fills up the middle section. Tonight the theater was packed. There were a few mishaps of course. In the Munchkinland scene, I slid on my skirt. In the Jitterbug scene, my dance partner fell into the curtain. It was hilarious. All in all, the performance was great.

OPENING NIGHT!

If you all could see the countdown at this very second you would see that it says that there are a little less than 4 hours left until opening night! YAY!!! I cannot believe how quickly this has gone by. I am a bundle of nerves right now! My Aunt Julie and Uncle Ken are coming to the musical tonight and so is Rachel, who is staying over at my house tonight. Tomorrow, Mistie is coming. And Saturday I have quite a list-

  1. 5- Mom, Dad, Michael, Gabri, and my great grandma got front row seats. On Saturday. I got those for Once Upon a Mattress last year and they are good and very hard to get.
  2. Uncle Mike and Aunt Kim
  3. Aunt Faith and my cousin, Andrew
  4. Grandpa and Bea

Awesome is it not? WISH ME LUCK!

Blonde Joke

A Blonde enters a store that sells curtains. She tells the salesman,
"I would like to buy a pair of pink curtains."
The salesman assures her that they have a large selection of pink
curtains. He shows her several patterns which she considers carefully before selecting a lovely pink floral print.

"What size curtains will you need?" asks the salesman.
"Fifteen inches" replied the Blonde.
"Fifteen inches???" says the startled salesman.
"That sounds very small. What room will these curtains be in?"
"Oh, they're not for a room," says the Blonde. "They are for my computer monitor."
"But Miss," says the surprised salesman, "computers don't need curtains."
"Helllooooooo!" she replies. "I've got Windoooooows!

Make-Up

Well, tonight is the big dress rehearsal. I can't believe how fast everything has gone. When I was auditioning the play seemed so far off. I can't believe how close the play is. Tonight, I have to miss church for obvious reasons, so my grandma is taking me to practice. I am going to beg and plead and cry to see if she will take me to Wal-Mart really quick before practice so I can get more pom-poms. Last night we added make-up to the performance. I have not the slightest idea on how to successfully apply make-up, so I had to ask my friend, Ebony, to help me.

"Ebony, can you help me with this stuff?"

"Um, I guess. Don't you know how?"

"Well, no. I haven't ever wore make up before"

*GASP*

"You've never wore makeup?"

"Nope."

"Brittany, get over here! This girl needs help!"

So Brittany and Ebony proceeded to have way too much fun than I thought necessary with my face. When they were done my layers included-

  1. Liquid Foundation

  2. Powder foundation

  3. Skin colored blush

  4. Pink blush

  5. Flourescent Pink Lipstick

I ran away before they found the eye liner and eye shadow, thank goodness. How do people stand doing that daily?

Costume Follies

Last night was the first rehearsal with costumes. When I went into the mirror room (dressing room) I found the little rack with my name on it. On that rack were two hangers. One had a pink and blue polo shirt, antennaes, and a mask. The other had the most hideous lacy, ruffly, puky green and purple outfit I had seen in my entire life. In short.. I LOVED IT! It also came with a straw hat with a big purple flower poking out of the top of it. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice. So my slippers that I made kind of clashed, but who really cares anyway? Some of the pom-poms fell of and I can only find one of them so I am going to buy some more I think and fix them. So, last night we were just supposed to be getting used to the idea of our costumes and learning how to move in them. Unfortunately, our Jitterbug costumes needed a little fixing. We go out on stage in our costumes and proceed to do our dance. It starts smoothly, but there is one problem. The eyeholes are too small making it very hard for us to see where we are going. In the end, one of the girls was laying on the floor of the hall, crying because someone stepped on her ankle and she could hardly walk on it. So, the prop people made our eyeholes a little bigger. Hopefully tonight will run smoother.
While we're on the subject of costume mishaps, I think the entertainment of the night was what happened to poor Sam Clarvoe. He plays Uncle Henry and an Ozian and when the ordered his Ozian costume there was a problem. Apparently the people at the costume place screwed up and ordered a (drumroll please) dress. I about died. Apparently this is not the first time that Sam's gender has been compromised. In 3rd grade apparently in his yearbook next to the picture was the name Samantha Clarvoe. Poor guy. I am having fun calling him Samantha right now though.

Can you do it?

Click on the link below and see if you can find the differences in the two photos. There are two identical pictures that will appear on the screen. Almost 8,000 people were tested to see if they could find the 3 differences in the two pictures and only 19 found all 3. See how observant you are. If you find all 3, you're one of very few people who are able to do this.

My day's good deed

Today I did something very out of character. I signed an environmental petition to stop Columbia Gas to stop cutting down trees at Mohican State Park. Columbia has been cutting down part of the forests around the park and because the trees aren't there to support the soil, it has been washing into the rivers and ponds in the park. Now normally, me and my friends would just sit back and laugh. "Haha, look at those tree-huggers." However, when I was in elementary school some of my best memories were at Mohican. When I was in fourth and fifth grade, I was in Challenge, the program for gifted kids. We would go to another school every Thursday and do higher level work (actually, the vocabulary worksheets that we are doing in 10 Honors English now were something we did as a contest every week, I recognize a lot of those packets we get) So, we did a bunch of wierd stuff, like Geology (blech...never again), French (once again.....never again), and reading classic literature, as well as a music and art period (music was blah and art rocked! Mr. Jacklin was awesome!) Sooooo, every year for science we did something environmental and our field trip was to go to Mohican. I loved that place. We would go in the fall and collect leaf prints, rock samples, or identify trees. We also learned a bunch of native stuff. We learned how to make face paint with clay mud and how to build a shelter out of branches and sticks. It was so fun, and I'm not even that outdoorsy. Sooooo, this was my reasoning for signing the petition.

The consequences of green

This is me in my halloween costume, compared to what I was going for. I look like I am in camo. I liked my costume, but it didn't turn out exactly as planned. Allow me to explain my coloring.
Notice that Idina Menzel (shown left, I think) is a nice mint to sea green. I am more of an olive. Now, I did have the perfect coloring. I lost my tube of green war paint and had to mix my own with blue, mustard yellow, and white. I had the perfect shade of green. I was putting it on my face and had it about halfway up when I ran out of perfect shade. Oh joy. Well, I went to mix my paint again and turned out with this color. Not cool. Then there comes the matter of my hat and shirt. Note the olive green on them? Apparently this stuff doesn't dry all that quickly. So, I liked my costume, but don't think that a career in make-up is in my future. Haha.
