Thirteen Songs That Confuse Me

  1. Blue- By Eiffel 65: Does anyone actually know the lyrics to the chorus? I think they are pretty much open to interpretation.
  2. She's Always a Woman- By Billy Joel- So, this woman stepped on his heart and he's blaming it on himself? Or did I miss something?
  3. I'll Be- By Edwin McCain- What exactly is "love suicide"?
  4. Jesus, Take The Wheel- By Carrie Underwood- "She didn't even have time to cry" and then she spews out 5 eloquently rhymed and metered lines.
  5. I Am A Friend Of God- By Israel and The New Breed- Well, duh. If you are a friend of God, he's gonna tend to call you friend.
  6. Killer Queen- By Queen- Don't get me wrong. I love this song. It's my ringtone. But why are the writing a song about a woman with dynamite and laser beams? You would think this would make her angry.
  7. I Am The Walrus- By The Beatles- It's too wierd to even describe. Click Here.
  8. Invisible- By Clay Aiken- Anyone who has heard this song just knows it's creepish. No explanation needed.
  9. I Hate You, Then I Love You- By Celine Dion- Two very strong words. Used together. This is what we call a non-commital relationship.
  10. Yellow Submarine- By The Beatles- Much like number 6, anyone who has heard the song doesn't understand it. Most likely.
  11. Someday My Prince Will Come- By Snow White- Psh. Liar.
  12. Baby It's Cold Outside- By Frank Loesser- No duh. It's winter.
  13. You're So Vain- By Carly Simon- "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you, don't you, don't you?" Ummmmmmmm....isn't it?

This was a hilarious list even for someone stuck in the 80's like me. I hadn't heard a lot of the songs, but your comments on the titles or lyrics were great.

Actually, I do know the lyrics to the chorus for Blue...

But I'm not tellin!

"Chapped lips, chapped sticks and things like chemistry" from Relient K. They have some weird and funny lines in their songs.

THANK YOU for not joining the "I less than three Carrie Underwood" bandwagon because that would have a damper on our relationship.

And as a mutual friend of ours sings #5 "I am a friend of Bob, he calls me Fred"

Someday My Prince Will Come- By Snow White- Psh. Liar. Thanks, I needed a good laugh. Methinks you are on your way to being a cynic.

This is a great post, I've never really thought about how absolutely silly many lyrics are, I'm more into the music, and could do without singing and lyrics altogether. But all of your points are right on. I loved Queen, they were juggernauts when I was in high school in the late 70s. One Friday night I stayed up late to see them on The Midnight Special, an old, live music concert show, WAY before MTV and videos. My Dad happened to stay up, and he picked on me for years for having liked them. I loved them, but to him they were silly. I particularly remember him picking on my about the song "Bicycle."
When I was a teen, we were more into portions of lyrics that said one thing, but sounded as if they were saying another. Ex. Jimi Hendrix, Purple Haze, says, "'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky" we used to sing it as, "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy" instead. I'll shut up now.

I am the walrus too, but only after a huge meal, a few cocktails, and a long night. But maybe that's just bloating? Hmmm.

#13 was the best! Laughed out loud at that one!

Awesome TT. All songs that confuse me, too!

LMAO! I've thought the same things about most of those songs too. :-)

Very funny list. #13 is the best. I remember reading once who the song was actually written about, but I've long since forgotten.

Thanks for visiting my TT.

Interesting list - thanks for popping by!

Great list!

And I've heard that #13's about Warren Beatty. He and Carly Simon dated at one point. But according to her official website, she's never revealed who the inspiration is -- Warren, Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens -- man, that woman dated some big names in music! :)

In a similar direction - "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette - the only ironic thing about it is that none of the situations are ironic.

The only one of those songs I've heard is #13. But that's because she wrote it about me.

Great list! I think with the beatles you just "had to be there..." Ok, I do love them but I don't pretend to even try to understand what most of them are about... :P Have a wonderful week!

It's so funny how we don't always think about the lyrics of some of our favourite songs? These are awesome. :)

I can't get no...satisfaction...

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who really didn't get #4. I must say, though, that I adore #2...more the piano than the lyrics, but it IS Billy Joel, after all. And during my not-so-nice later teenage years it was sort of my anthem. Thankfully, I've outgrown that. :) Great list!

Thank you for dropping by my TT!
